Jacqui Canney

Jacqui Canney is executive vice president, Chief People Officer for Walmart Inc. She is responsible for attracting, retaining and developing talent for one of the world’s largest private employers. In Fiscal Year 2018, Walmart net revenues were $500.3B from operations in 28 countries.

Jacqui plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of retail by enabling Walmart’s more than 2.3 million associates to change how they work in today’s environment, supporting Walmart’s goal of being a high-performance digital enterprise. This includes seamlessly integrating the workforce of Walmart’s recent acquisitions of over $20B and many partners, including DoorDash, Lord & Taylor, ModCloth, Moosejaw and Shoebuy, among others.

She is committed to educating and empowering Walmart employees to advance in the jobs of today and tomorrow. Jacqui is a driving force behind efforts that provide associates access to some of the best technology, training and education opportunities in the industry. Recently, Jacqui supported the development and implementation of Walmart’s Academies, which over 500,000 associates have participated in over the past 20 months.

Jacqui and her team also are actively engaged in Walmart’s recent partnership with Guild Education, which aims to give associates the chance to earn a college degree for the equivalent of $1 dollar a day.

As Walmart seeks to develop the next generation of global leaders for the company, Jacqui and her team have supported Walmart International in the development of the Accelerated Pipeline Experience program for high potential emerging leaders from across international markets.

She is passionate about driving and contributing to Walmart’s inclusive culture. Under her leadership, Walmart’s Global Culture, Diversity and Inclusion Office is offering new programs, such as “returnships,” to help stay at home moms re-enter the workforce, and Walmart recently expanded maternity and parental leave benefits.

Prior to joining Walmart, Jacqui worked at Accenture for 25 years. At Accenture, Jacqui played a pivotal role in helping support the rapid growth of the business from 21,000 people to more than 300,000 and net revenue growth of $1.4B to $32.9B.

In 2000, Jacqui was promoted to an officer of the company. Throughout her tenure she continued to take on challenging assignments including leading the people component of a business transformation of a challenged segment with over 30% attrition and declining margins. Within three years the segment became the most profitable business unit with the most highly engaged workforce in the company. She also led human resources for Accenture Digital, helping grow the business to over 60% of the company’s revenue.

Jacqui has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Boston College and is very active on campus guest lecturing, collaborating with professors, and recruiting.
