The NRF Foundation Honors, presented by American Express and PwC, celebrated a community partner making an impact with the NRF Foundation’s retail skills training.

The 2022 NRF Foundation RISE Up Partner of the Year was awarded by Old Navy, and the inaugural RISE Up Partner of the Year provided the introduction to the honoree.

“Since being honored, we’ve expanded our reach to more Arizona communities, including a place that’s very special to me, where I went to school – the Phoenix Union High School District,” says Orlando Cazarez with The Center for the Future of Arizona. “We connected the district’s largest high school – Trevor G. Browne – to NRF Foundation training, and now their work is being honored.”

A video highlighting how the training is used at Trevor G. Browne High School – and the positive impact the program is having on students, families and the larger community – premiered to an audience of more than 600 attendees at the NRF Foundation Honors on April 13 in New York City.

Nancy Green (most recently the president and CEO of Old Navy) presented the award to instructor John-Martin Rigsby.

“The students at Trevor G. Browne High School are off to a great start, learning key customer service skills and much more, because of the dedication of their teacher,” says Green, who announced that in addition to the trophy, Rigsby would receive $10,000 from the NRF Foundation to take back to his students.

“I am so proud that my district, my campus and my students are being recognized. This credential is helping our students elevate themselves as they are looking for a job in retail,” Rigsby says. “I know that these credentials are changing the trajectory for people in my community, and that has a really big place in my heart for my students and for my families.”
